Woodland Solutions Group was contracted with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) to implement a timber cruise and forest inventory software platform to manage forestry data and enhance strategic planning for timber inventory and data management for the organization.
The agency is charged with managing the NCWRC owned acres (~540,000) in accordance with its mission statement, which is to conserve wildlife resources and their associated habitat and provide opportunities for hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The software solution required a mobile application component and support offline functionality for the collection of data.

Value Added
Woodland Solutions Group’s Inventory Management System resulted in the achievement of NCWRC’s goal to streamline all inventory processes into a seamless enterprise solution for all the steps involved in planning, design, executing, and post-processing a forest inventory and timber cruise with modern software technology. The program has allowed NCWRC to gain efficiencies in inventory data collection through the standardization and centralization of that process, increasing the capacity of both staff and contracted timber cruisers. Further, it has improved the quality of the inventory through both field and desktop auditing solutions. Finally, the Inventory Management System has allowed us to put the inventory to work by easily exporting data into formats compatible with mapping, merchandising, and growth and yield software programs. These tools have allowed us to plan operations more effectively and demonstrate the benefits of improved management in terms of projected acres treated, habitat improved, and revenues received.
