The Yankee Fork is a major tributary to the Salmon River in Idaho, and was traditionally used as a spawning grounds for Chinook salmon until the river was overused for gold mining in the late 1800’s. Currently, a rehabilitation project is underway at the Yankee Fork to restore the salmon’s habitat and put future environmental protections in place. The project has already seen some success, as a new batch of steelhead trout was spawned in the river in late 2012.

Under its prime IDIQ surveying contract with the Pacific Northwest Region of the US Bureau of Reclamation, DJ&A performed cadastral surveys along approximately seven miles of the Yankee Fork. The project included detailed and in-depth land ownership records research, retracement surveys of existing Mineral Surveys, and the production and recordation of multiple sheets of Record of Surveys with the governing agency. This project also included Idaho State Plane coordinate control surveys, monumentation and/or perpetuation of existing corner monuments, and retracement of federal and private ownership tracts.

Key Services

  • Completed records research at the county courthouse and of BLM Records
  • Searched, tied and/or reestablished (60) mineral survey controlling corners needed to establish the existing property boundaries
  • Conducted cadastral and boundary surveys for nine (9) placer mineral surveys covering 7+/- river miles, two (2) BLM tracts, and twelve (12) private property subdivision lots
  • Prepared and filed multiple Record of Surveys with the Custer County Courthouse, identifying Mineral surveys and private property surveys and the relationship between federal lands
  • Established and tied a project survey control network to the Idaho State Plane Coordinate System (NAD83) using Trimble GNSS equipment
  • Conducted field survey work using GNSS, conventional, ground based scanner and bathymetric surveying equipment
  • Performed transect or cross-sectional surveys to support topographic mapping
  • Established and tied a project survey control network to the Idaho State Plane Coordinate System (NAD83) using Trimble GNSS equipment
  • Conducted field survey work using GNSS, conventional, ground based scanner and bathymetric surveying equipment
  • Conducted 7+ miles of river bathymetric surveys
  • Conducted six (6) detailed bridge structure site surveys
  • Developed 1’ contour interval mapping for approximately 600 acres combining field survey data with aerial LiDAR data

Value Added

This project highlights DJ&A’s ability to conduct surveying in difficult terrain, including in high elevation, in severe weather conditions, and in and around waterways.
