As we reflect on 2019, we can’t help but be filled with gratitude for all that our clients, partners, and staff have been able to accomplish together over the past 12 months.
Our clients brought us all across the United States, from remote islands of Alaska down to Puerto Rico, to work on unique and challenging projects.
The National Park Service continued to make great improvements to a number of Park facilities and infrastructure. Our team traveled to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado to rehabilitate historic structures in the Park for visitor use.
The U.S. Forest Service is making plans for a comprehensive site rehabilitation at Kenai Lake Work Center near Seward, Alaska. We are excited for the opportunity to continue supporting this project into 2020.
In a response to a growing need from our clients for environmental services, we expanded our team through the acquisition of Ecosystem Research Group (ERG), a small business environmental consulting firm founded in Missoula in 1997.
In addition to 14 new employees from ERG, we hired 12 additional full-time employees to further grow our capacity and the services we can provide. This summer, we officially broke ground in on a new office building in Missoula to accommodate this growth.
DJ&A’s Mike Jensen, Kurt Luebke, and Christopher Anderson, Missoula Mayor John Engen, Grant Kier (Missoula Economic Partnership), and Ellen Buchanan (Missoula Redevelopment Agency) at the project site, located in Missoula’s only Opportunity Zone.
We are incredibly thankful for the broad support this project has received from our community, including funding from the Missoula Redevelopment Agency and City of Missoula to bring new sidewalks, boulevards, and street trees, and gravity sewer to the area. Continued growth and economic development in this area is on the horizon thanks to these investments.
DJ&A staff attended a “Topping Out” party hosted by Jackson Contractors in November to commemorate the successful completion of a significant portion of the building’s construction.
We also opened up an office in Lakewood, Colorado to better serve our clients based in and around Denver. We look forward to opportunities in 2020 to partner with both our new clients in the area, Central Federal Lands Highway Division and U.S. Forest Service, Region 2, and our existing partners from this new outpost in the Rockies.
As we reflect upon the year behind us, one thing is abundantly clear: we serve incredible clients and communities.
DJ&A participated in CANdemonium, an annual design/build competition benefiting the Missoula Food Bank. Employees volunteered for a variety of causes they cared about, including delivering food for in Missoula.
A particularly special moment of the year was when we were able to travel to Chicago to watch our long-term partner, Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFLHD), accept a well-deserved award at the ACEC 2019 National Qualifications-Based Selection Award Ceremony. We believe WFLHD is a shining example of how all public agencies should be procuring professional services and congratulate them on this recognition.

We are so proud of all that our clients and partners have accomplished in 2019, and extend a thank you to all for another great year of partnership. We look forward to continuing to serve your needs in 2020 and beyond!
